Billiard Table Pockets 8 ball shot (billiards). Who was right?
My room mate and I were playing 8 ball and the legitimacy of a shot was questioned. Here is the scenario:
I was playing as solids, room mate was stripes. A stripe was siting on the edge of a corner pocket. I called my shot, stating that my solid would strike his stripe (knocking it in) and then my solid would fall into the pocket behind it. The cue ball would strike my ball (solid) first. I made the shot exactly as I stated and he contested the shot saying that because I knocked his ball in that it was now his turn. I claim that because the cue ball struck one of my solids initially and I pocked one of my balls (the exact one I called), that it was still my turn at the table.
Any billiards experts have an opinion on this scenario? Who was right; me or my roomie?
According to BCA and World Standardized rules, when playing call pocket 8 Ball all you need to call is the ball you intend to pocket and the pocket it will go in. As long as you make a legal shot (hit your group first, then do not scratch or pocket the 8 ball) and pocket the called ball in the correct pocket, it is still your turn. In this particular scenario, you are correct. You pocketed the ball legally and it is still your turn. People who play any other way do not know the rules.
