Billiards Stick Figure
PHYSICS-i tried as hard as i could i cant figure out stupid little things!?

if you could help me with a couple questions i am completely stuck on, i would be incredibly grateful, thank you.

1. a 0.40 kg ball is thrown with a speed of 12 m/s at an angle of 33 degrees.
a) what is the speed at its highest point
b) how high does it go ( use conservation of energy, and ignore air resistance.)

2. Two billiard balls of equal mass undergo a perfectly elastic head-on collision. if one ball's initial speed was 2.00 m/s and the other's was 3.00 m/s in the oposite direction, what will be their speed after the collision?

Answers: 1. a)10 m/s
b)2.2 m

2. -3.00 m/s and 2.00 m/s

I've tried both these questions a bunch of times, and i am continuously getting them wrong. for #2, i can understand the idea that they switch speeds and direction, but how do i explain this in mathematical steps to prove it?

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

1) a) speed at highest point = u cos(33) = 12 x 0.8387 = 10.06 m/sec
b) the hieght it goes H = u^2 sin^2(33) / 2 g
= 144 x (0.5446)^2 / 2x9.8 = 2.179 m = 2.2 m

2) due to equal mass the balls simply exchange their speeds. hence, the speeds become - 3 m/sec and 2 m/sec. that's it.
( physics is not stupid, we are stupid not able to understand the concepts. ok )

Homework help needed. Thanks?

Hi
I can't figure out how to do these physics questions. Can anyone out there answer them with working out shown?

Q5. a mobile cannon fires a 5kg shell at 250m/s. What is the cannon's recoil velocity if it has a mass of one tonne?

Q6. Two gliders A and B collide on an air track. A has a mass of 75g, B has a mass of 100g. They travel towards each other, both moving at 1.0m/s then collide and stick together. What is their final velocity?

Q9. Two billiard balls collide in a straight line. Both have a mass of 100g. Ball 1 initially travels at 2m/s to the right and after the collision rebounds at 0.5m/s. Ball 2 initially moves at 3m/s to the left. What is the final velocity of Ball 2?

Thanks to who all answer

Q5 : m1v1=m2v2
(5)*(250) = 1000*v2
v2 = (5*250) / 1000 = 1.25 m/s
Q6: m1v1 + m2v2 = (m1+m2)*v3
(0.075)*1 + (0.1)*1 = (0.175)*v3
v3 = 1m/s

Q9 : m1v1 - m2v2 = -m1v3 + m2v4
since both balls weigh the same, we can divide it out.
v1 - v2 = -v3 + v4
2 - 3 = -0.5 + v4
v4 = 2 m/s to the right

    How much do you weigh and what is your height now?

    I would agree with the shakes you're drinking, but there are also some very calorie dense protein bars that are non filling. You can find them on bodybuilding.com, or at GNC (which tends to be much more expensive) Try to eat every 2-3 hours to stoke your metabolism also…
