How To Make The 8 Ball On The Break
Ping Pong Tables Or Table Tennis Tables? Which Is More Proper?
Ping pong or table tennis? What's the difference? Providing you are enjoying smashing ping pong balls in ping pong tables does it matter what you call it? But just to set things right, the phrase "ping-pong" must have orginated from the sound from which is created when you strike the ping-pong ball back and forth with the tennis racket. Hmm. Does it really sound like "ping-pong"? It surely does sound a bit like "whish-whack" to me. As a matter of fact, there was actually a time when players called table tennis "whiff-whaff", clearly for the same reason. So which would you choose to say: "my interest is playing ping pong" or "I am an expert whiff-whaff player"?
Some individuals actually take this business rather as a serious one. And for some particular reasons, probably to sort things out, players who are just playing this for amusement say it something like "let's play ping-pong" and for those who play it professionally say, "I play table tennis for a living." Although "whiff-whaff" and "ping pong" have been used much earlier to call this fun sport, maybe it is rather safe to call it "table tennis" for the sake of official technical reasons. At least here in this discussion for that matter.
Table tennis has been played as earlier as the medieval ages-that would have been between the 12 to 15th century to be specific. It was exclusively played by the British aristocrats as an after-dinner parlour sport fun. When it became a preferred outside game nobody can really explain, maybe ever since manufacturers started to mass produce quality sports paraphernalia such as tennis racket and ping pong tables-oops, table tennis tables rather, and variations of the game have been introduced.
The spread of table tennis the world over might have been started when the British armed forces brought the indoor game to India, China and South Africa on the 1800s. In the 1900s, ostensibly the sport was already becoming a household sport in the United States which may have motivated the Englishman businessman stationed there, in the names of James Gibb to patent hollow celluloid balls as the table tennis ball we know of these days. He brought his invention back to England and it's rumored that the name "ping-pong' was firstly heard due to the changed sound it has generated.
On the other hand, the patent holder of the game "ping-pong" is John Jacques in England whereas the Parker Brothers own the patent rights in the America. There was a different "Ping-Pong Association" and "Table Tennis Association" registered in the year 1901 in England, which was registered only four days apart. In the United States, the two association amalgamated and became the "United States Table Tennis and Ping-Pong Association" in May 1, 1903. Currently, there are a lot of variations of the famous sport and although the rules of the sport have been changed and altered through time, it only have made the table tennis game much more fun to do. It also made the designs of table tennis supplies such as ping pong tables, racket, net and even table tennis sports wear much more expert looking.
